Theotokos of Perpetual Help Category List
The first icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary was allegedly painted by St. Luke the Evangelist. Among the best-known icons of the Blessed Mother is that from the 5th century depicting her as Mother of Perpetual Help. Painted in typical Byzantine style it portrays both a likeness of the Blessed Mother and also the ideal of exalted Divine Motherhood of Mary for which “all generations shall call me blessed.” (Luke 1:48) With loving eyes she looks at us displaying a motherly concern that opens her heart to humanity to share love and ask for maternal intercession.
